The BMW 02 Series were small sedans belonging to the "Neue Klasse" family of cars, which shaped BMW's image and established its position in the global market. The Neue Klasse combined elegance and classic proportions with innovative solutions and a sporty character. It was then that the characteristic rear window cutout, known as the "Hofmeister-Knick" (named after the designer), was introduced to BMW styling. Independent rear suspension was also a new feature. Power was supplied by the legendary M10 engine, available in variants from 1500 to 2000 cc. The top-of-the-line BMW 2002 Turbo was the first mass-produced vehicle with a turbocharger in Europe. This engine was installed in BMW cars for the next 20 years, and its block was even used in Formula 1 racing. The 02 Series enjoyed success in motorsport and proved to be a sales hit, even overseas. The car was praised for its excellent handling and good performance, while maintaining a reasonable price and economy, and became the forerunner of the later 3 Series.

The BMW 1802 on offer has a unique provenance. The car was imported to Poland new in 1974 by one of the "Górski Eagles." BMW created a special discount offer for medalists at the FIFA World Cup held in West Germany. At that time, at least several players from the legendary Polish team took advantage of the opportunity and purchased the E10 model. Thanks to press sources and the assistance of Wisła Kraków club officials, it was determined that two such cars were circulating in Kraków, driven by local players. One was lemon-colored and belonged to Adam Musiał, the other, shaded "Inka Orange," belonged to Antoni Szymanowski. Musiał was involved in a high-profile accident and wrecked his car, so it's highly likely that this is Szymanowski's car. This example appears to be the only surviving one of those imported by prominent Polish athletes at the time, and it remains in service to this day.

The BMW on display is not only a desirable vintage model with great potential. It's also a part of the history of Polish sporting successes. Potential buyers should keep in mind that this car's provenance represents a significant investment from a collector's perspective.
