Volvo 244 (1977)
1977 VOLVO 244 - A Swedish legend seeks a new owner
This beautiful Volvo isn't just a car – it's a piece of automotive history that has lived for almost half a century and still has much to offer.
Why the 1977 Volvo is a true treasure:
1977 was a special year for the Swedish brand – it was the year Volvo celebrated its 50th anniversary. Founded in 1927 by Asstar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson, the Gothenburg-based company had already made safety its mission half a century earlier. Their motto, "Cars are driven by people. Therefore, the principle that guides everything we do is and must remain safety" – was revolutionary in the 1920s.
Why a Volvo from this period is an investment in history:
The 1970s were Volvo's golden age. Swedish engineers were just introducing their revolutionary crash tests, innovative solutions that we now consider standard: reinforced structures, well-thought-out crumple zones, and the first child safety systems. Their cars earned a reputation for being "armored" thanks to their exceptionally robust construction. The 244 model embodies the Swedish automotive philosophy – simplicity, functionality, and durability above all else. The 240 series, to which this example belongs, has become an icon of reliability.
The history of this particular example:
Manufactured at the Swedish plant in Gothenburg during this anniversary year, this particular example drove peacefully on Swedish roads for many years and in 2017 was brought to Poland, where it served as a reliable travel companion for years to come. In 2018-2019, the car's rear wheel arches and spare tire wells were replaced, and minor damage to the windshield was repaired. The bodywork received a fresh coat of paint. Brake parts were replaced, and several original Volvo accessories were added. All windows are original, and the engine and suspension components are in good working order, requiring no restoration.
Specifications:
Original B21A 2.1L, 100 HP engine—the same one renowned for its indestructibility and ease of maintenance.
4-speed manual transmission.
Mileage: 43,000 km on the clock. The car had its odometer replaced in Sweden. In my opinion, the mileage could be around 240,000 km, which is still just a warm-up for a Volvo.
The bodywork is in very good condition after restoration and requires no additional investment.
The interior has been preserved in its original colors—a true vintage car from the 1970s.
Four original steel rims are also included.
Why I'm selling:
After years of traveling together, it's time for this Swedish classic to find someone who will continue to cherish and care for this piece of Swedish Volvo history. In my garage, the Jubileum will soon be replaced by a 1973 164.
