Porsche 936 Junior (1984)
Alpha Porsche 936 Junior – A Miniature Legend of Le Mans
There are cars that ignite the imagination of adults — and then there are those that awaken the child within us all. The Alpha Porsche 936 Junior is one of those rare creations: a captivating fusion of engineering precision, childhood wonder, and motorsport heritage, all scaled down to half size.
In the 1980s, Alpha, the Polish company founded by Sobiesław Zasada, three-time European Rally Champion, embarked on an extraordinary venture — the production of gas-powered miniature cars for children, inspired by Mercedes-Benz and Porsche models. With close ties to Porsche AG and Mercedes-Benz, Zasada used his technical background and manufacturing capabilities to create vehicles that were far more than toys. They were real, drivable cars, complete with engines, manual gearboxes, working lights, and handbrakes — built with the same passion as their full-size inspirations.
Among these remarkable creations was the Alpha Porsche 936 Junior, modelled after the legendary Porsche 936 Spyder, a three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner. In its famous Jules / Christian Dior livery, the 936 triumphed at Le Mans in 1981, driven by Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell — a moment forever etched in racing history.
Alpha produced approximately 180 examples of the 936 Junior, most of which were delivered to the U.S. and Middle Eastern markets. Today, surviving examples have become highly collectible pieces, sought after by Porsche enthusiasts and collectors of historic automotive memorabilia alike.
This particular car comes from a private collection and was purchased in 2014 from the Nicola AC auction house in Germany (nicola-ac.de). Between 2015 and 2017, it underwent a comprehensive restoration, including a complete rebuild of the chassis, drive-train, steering system, and seat. Several components, such as the fuel tank, were re-fabricated to original specifications. The level of attention to detail is exceptional — even the stickers and markings are original, made by the Alpha factory in the 1980s.
Power comes from a 203 cc single-cylinder petrol engine producing 5 HP, paired with a manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. Mechanically simple yet impressively authentic, the Alpha 936 Junior remains not only a stunning display piece but also a fully operational miniature car — a genuine tribute to classic racing spirit.
Today, this rare model stands as an extraordinary blend of craftsmanship, history, and childhood dream, where Polish engineering meets the legend of Le Mans.
